I have a friend at work who draws little creatures and every week he assigns me a creature to colour, and evolve, through further sketching. Then, as I am on the phone and keen to doodle, I colour and create an identity for these creatures. Finally, I add a pertinent, yet entirely random, 80s or 90s song lyric and return the finished product to my friend. We then laugh and critique this faux artistic endeavour – he has a masters in fine art, so I listen to his opinion.
I wanted to share these, not for the artistic merit, but just to show that wherever you are, whatever you do and whomever you do it with, there are little ways that you can spread joy in the world.
Next time that work gets you down, take 30 seconds to pick up a pen, draw a little creature and allow your mind to rest. I guarantee that greater productivity will follow. That, and a calmer state of mind.
