I flew in and out of New York for a business meeting this week and was introduced, fleetingly, to a city that feels in many ways intrinsically familiar to someone who’s lived in London, a city that shares many structural parallels with Toronto and houses a lot of architecture more likely found in Montreal. All in all it was a pleasurable glimpse into another way of life and an enlightening view of another mass of humans existing in close, sometimes discomforting, quarters. My meeting was on an upper floor of the Empire State Building. The view was impressive. I wrote this haiku about the view.
Reaching for the sky,
We are as a cloud.
