245. Vert

The concept of language completely fascinates me, particularly how spoken human communication has developed so differently across the many continents and regions of our shared planet. I wrote this poem as a playful homage to language.

The grass is ‘vert’ they say in France,

In Spain there’s ‘verde’ trees.

In Bosnia, grass grows ‘zelen’,

In England it is ‘green’.

In Sweden grass is very ‘gron’,

Whilst Haiti sees it ‘vet’.

The trees in Greece are ‘prasinos’

There’s many more I bet!
