Yet – we must still try! 🙂

  2. I remember telling a man I loved (years and years ago) that I wanted “Exposure.” Meaning to see the world, the people in it, to push the boundaries of my experience. He said, “You’ve already seen more than 99% of Americans ever see. The more exposure you have, the harder it is to fit in, to make friends.” I was 26. I went out there after exposure AND still kept trying to be “normal” even as I pushed against normal. I have a painting in mind of a woman straddling a fence — but I’m stuck. Is it just a normal fence or is it barbed wire?

Hmmm. I totally relate.. The duality of pursuing something intensely emotionally arresting, whilst remaining adept at societal conquests too.
